About Us

First visiting Little Corn Island in December of 2007, we (Kristine Gilfoyle and Scot Smyth) had no idea that we would return to live in this island paradise. Fortunate enough to have travelled quite extensively, we had visited many wonderful and exciting locales. But there was something about Little Corn that really started us thinking about making this island our home (strangely enough, it all came down to a coin flip, ask us about if you would like). The island was gorgeous, the people friendly and welcoming and the country intriguing.

Befriending a local hotel owner on our first visit we asked him to adopt a little starving puppy (Minnow) with the caveat that they would provide ongoing support for the now lucky little dog. When Carlito saw that his new puppy was a female he was concerned about the possibility of many new puppies and the responsibility he would feel about introducing more animals to the island. We agreed to bring a veterinarian to the island to spay little Minnow.

That germ of an idea led to our first veterinary clinic in June of 2008 and our second in 2009, as well as our support for the school. The process of organizing this endeavor brought as back to the island many times. During that time, we began to feel like this little island was our home.

We are excited that we now have the opportunity to become upstanding community members on this beautiful little slice of heaven. We have constructed Little Corn Beach and Bungalow with the idea that we must honor this place and its people. We hope that you will feel the same about Little Corn Island that we do and take to heart the unusual opportunity we all have to make a positive impact on this extraordinary little place on our green earth!
